The French Development Agency (AFD) is financing a metro project in the city of Kochi (India). To carry out the implementation of a multimodal public transport network, the Indian authorities are setting up a transport authority. French cooperation supports the public company of the metro, Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL), to position itself as a future transport authority. The objectives of this cooperation are:

  • Support for the creation of a transport authority and the implementation of an integrated multimodal transport system: interchange, fare integration, political/legal structure, transport financing, active modes, public spaces, etc.;
  • Support for the operation and maintenance of the Kochi metro: use of performance indicators, establishment of standard procedures, customer orientation, sustainable management, etc.

CODATU intervenes in this context as a facilitator of cooperation and supports KMRL in the creation of the transport authority, the identification and implementation of urban projects, the definition of an integrated transport network, the study of the implementation of a possible tram network and assistance with the implementation of metro operation.
