One of the objectives of the MobiliseYourCity program in India is to support local authorities in defining and implementing a Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) system in the three MYC pilot cities: Ahmedabad, Kochi, and Nagpur. The development of this tool enables the monitoring of (i) changes in urban mobility characteristics and (ii) the implementation and results of the overall strategy outlined in the associated Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs).
The observatory developed consists of an interactive online dashboard comprising four components:
• A set of 20 indicators based on various types of data, such as demographics, local GDP, built-up area, mobility demand, transport supply, motorization rates, fatal accidents, the annual transport budget, energy consumption by mode, and greenhouse gas emissions, etc.;
• Monitoring the progress of the SUMP, based on a smaller set of key indicators to examine future mobility trends and verify that the objectives are met by 2050;
• Monitoring the implementation of the SUMP to track the completion of each action identified in the SUMP action plan;
• A public participation component to gather users’ opinions and feedback on current mobility conditions.
The database can be easily updated annually with minimal effort.
