Yaoundé, a metropolis of approximately 4 million inhabitants, relies primarily on an informal, shared taxi system. Nearly 40% of daily trips are made using this mode of transport, according to data from the 2018 Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PMUS). However, this transport is of poor quality due to its limited capacity, high costs, and safety concerns for both operators and passengers. The city's road network, severely constrained by the terrain, is increasingly congested, further hindering this mode of transport, which is now mired in gridlock. Yet, the residents of Yaoundé have no other alternative.
