The municipalities of Guarulhos and Recife are both considering developing tramway projects (VLT in Portuguese) to strengthen their mobility systems and offer residents and visitors the opportunity to use a modern, efficient, and environmentally friendly mode of transport. These projects would be accompanied by a facade-to-facade redevelopment to promote integration and intermodality and significantly improve urban quality along the route.

The Recife project connects the Boa Viagem district to Santo Amaro, on the border with the municipality of Olinda, via a route of approximately 15 km.

The Guarulhos project envisages two alternative routes of approximately 11 km, connecting the airport, the city center, and the Transguarulhense linear park. This project follows on from a preliminary study carried out by DVDH in 2019 with AFD funding.

DVDH is the leader of the consortium commissioned by BNDES and KfW to carry out technical, economic, and socio-environmental pre-feasibility studies for these two projects. As such, we are studying the demand for future tramways and their impact on traffic flow and road capacity. We are developing the operating plan to determine the size of the various systems and estimating the investment and operating costs.
