With the support of the French Development Agency (AFD), the State of Paraíba and the city of João Pessoa are implementing a project to restructure the bus network and the city and its conurbation (1.2 million inhabitants) around four Bus Rapid Transit (BRS) corridors interconnected by new multimodal hubs. The BRS corridors represent an intermediate option between Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems, with open stations and no passing lanes.
The consortium's role is to assess the viability of these projects, identify areas for improvement, and propose a restructuring of the bus network to ensure the success of these corridors. DVDH is conducting extensive surveys, including traffic counts, interviews, and focus groups with women and residents of disadvantaged neighborhoods, to produce a thorough analysis of current traffic flows and needs. We are also conducting a financial analysis and reviewing existing concession contracts and developing a multimodal concept that identifies the role of each mode of transport and alternative routes. Finally, we are participating in a rigorous review of the sizing and arrangement of multimodal transport hubs to take into account operational, financial, environmental, accessibility, urban integration requirements and the needs of the population.
